Northumberland County is truly an achingly beautiful countryside. It has the rolling hills and rich rural landscape that you envision when thinking about Tuscany, but is right here in Ontario! That was the appeal when Ian Fraser bought his 100 acre hobby farm in the old Hamlet of Oak Heights and asked himself ”Why not put a winery here?!”
However, after living in Northumberland County and becoming part of the community, we realized that it’s the people who are the true reflection of the beauty of Northumberland County!
If you haven’t been to visit this gem of a County, you really must come and see it for yourself! Get in the car and take in the gorgeous views on your way to meet some amazing people. Sample the World’s Finest Chocolate, or nosh on some fresh baked bread at Dooher’s Bakery. Try some Bison or Elk at Century Game Park. Visit our friends at Empire Cheese and sip some Northumberland Ale at Church-Key Brewing Company, take in a Concert at The Barn, and stop to smell the lilacs at Lilac Valley Road. Head down for a day at the beautiful Cobourg beach, wander the shops and enjoy a jazz brunch at The Northside. If you need to stock up on some antiques, head over to Michael Thomas Antiques in Port Hope and pop in to see what’s playing at The Capitol Theatre. And of course, you must come to visit us in Warkworth and toast all of your new discoveries!
